God’s people were living as exiles in Babylon under King Xerxes. At one point, the king wanted a new queen. Eventually, a Jewish gal named Esther was appointed. She had a cousin and guardian named Mordecai. A man named Haman was also on the rise to power in the king’s court. Because Mordecai wouldn’t bow down to Haman, Haman devised a plan to kill Mordecai and all the Jews as well (he didn’t know Esther was Jewish). Through Esther’s shrewdness, love for her people, the influence of her position, and God’s grace she rescued her people from the evil plot.
